Today , the world’s most influential physical-sciences publication,
as a Senior Editor. The flagship publication of AIP, Physics Today
is a trusted voice that, through accessible, engaging content,
serves as a unifying influence on the physical sciences by
cultivating a shared understanding, appreciation, and sense of
belonging among physical scientists that bridges disciplinary
boundaries. Physics Today keeps the community informed, stimulates
conversation, and helps shape how the community sees itself. Come
interact with leading researchers and influencers, write engaging
news stories, and edit feature articles that span the full gamut of
fields for over 100,000 magazine readers and 150,000 monthly
website visitors. Leverage your graduate degree in physics (PhD
preferred) and 8 years of science-writing and editing experience to
create impactful content and connect with the global
physical-sciences community. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Lead Physics Today ’s
reporting on research news. Identify, evaluate, and pitch story
ideas about noteworthy and interesting research developments across
the gamut of physical-science fields. Write engaging, informative
news stories, ranging from briefs to feature-length pieces, with
exceptional narrative flair and technical proficiency. Position any
new results within a broader context for PT’s audiences. Identify
and develop relevant graphics and other media, taking full,
creative advantage of digital storytelling opportunities. Develop
and edit feature articles by subject-matter experts to create
polished, accessible, engaging final products. Help provide
editorial oversight on news stories and feature articles. Mentor
junior staff on writing and editing. Contribute to and help guide
PT’s social media presence. Develop a deep understanding of PT’s
audience and their evolving information needs. Incorporate reader
feedback and analytics into editorial decisions in order to
continuously improve content relevance, engagement, and impact.
Attend scientific meetings and maintain broad contact with members
of the physical-sciences community. Contribute to and advance the
overall editorial effort of PT. WHAT YOU’LL BRING: A strong passion
for science and science communication. Graduate degree, PhD
preferred, in physics or a closely related field, or equivalent
extensive knowledge of the physical-science research community. At
least 8 years of professional science writing and editing
experience, preferably at a scientific magazine. Strong critical
thinking skills and ability to solve substantive editing problems.
Exceptional talent for storytelling and for explaining complex
physics-related topics to a broad audience of scientists. Creative
prowess and meticulous attention to detail. Ability to learn new
things quickly and independently. Ability to work well with others,
both inside and outside the organization. Ability to multitask,
handle multiple assignments and priorities on varying timescales,

COMPENSATION: $99,368.00 - 109,305.00 WORKING AT AIP: AIP embraces
a flexible hybrid work environment to balance in-person
collaborative work with remote work. The team works in a flexible,
hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park,
Maryland, and Washington, DC, as needed. Employees are required to
reside in the DC Metro regions of Maryland, Virginia, or
