JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of the Liberal Arts is looking for a creative graphic designer to join our web and creative services team. This position's primarily responsibility is working as part of a team to design and maintain the College's portfolio of websites. The College of the Liberal Arts manages over one hundred websites for departments, centers, institutes, and other areas. Other duties include assisting with digital signage design, word mark development, photo editing, and more.

Candidates must be able to turn client ideas into well-organized and professional-looking website designs that meets or exceeds our clients' needs and follows the College's and Penn State's brand guidelines. Typically, this position requires an Associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with website design, responsive design, branding, accessibility, user experience (UX), photo editing, and inclusive design concepts is preferred but not required. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, website development, and Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress is preferred. Working knowledge of page building tools like Elementor and Divi are also preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to learn Penn State visual identity policy and design best practices, adapt to design trends, multi-task, prioritize, and achieve project deadlines. The ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment is required. The candidate should be open to feedback on their work and be comfortable working alongside web developers so that websites meet the clients' expectations and adhere to Penn State guidelines, standards, and accessibility requirements. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of graphic design tools, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. The candidate should be familiar with uses of social media as well as be interested in proactively researching academic website development trends and best practices.
