Penn State Schuylkill is seeking an Assistant Residence Hall Coordinator that reports directly to the Associate Director of Students Affairs and works closely with the entire Residence Life staff, including the four Resident Assistants. This is a live-in position with responsibilities that include conflict resolution, program development, fostering community, promoting an academic connection, facilities management, and the administration of the University conduct process.

The Assistant Residence Hall Coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Providing direction to Resident Assistants in on-going community and academic development.
  • Mediating roommate conflicts that escalate beyond the Resident Assistant level.
  • Developing programs and activities consistent with the philosophy of residence hall living.
  • Motivating Resident Assistants to plan and implement programs that meet student needs and interests based on a programming model.
  • Assisting with the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start and end of each semester and at breaks, along with health and safety inspections and monthly fire drills.
  • Participating in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of student staff.
  • Serving as part of the on-call duty rotation which includes evening, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assuming other duties as assigned by supervisors.

The Assistant Residence Hall Coordinator must be enrolled full-time in a Master's Degree program in Higher Education Management, Higher Education Administration, Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, Student Personnel, Counseling or related program is required. Residence Life experience including living and working in a residence hall environment is preferred.

The position is available July 12, 2021 to May 14, 2022, and will work approximately 24 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate during peak times. Employment includes a furnished on-campus apartment with a full-size kitchen. A valid driver's license and the successful completion of a motor vehicle records check is required in addition to the three publicly available clearances. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background checks in accordance with University policies.
