The KBC Logistics & Trade Compliance Specialist is a key
position responsible for eliciting the business needs in regards to
transportation route performance for both International and
Domestic shipments for all three Business Units at Knorr Brake
Company. The Logistics & Trade Compliance Specialist will be
responsible for managing and improving the agreed routes and
negotiated lanes with Carriers and Freight Forwarders for Domestic
freight and International Air/Ocean Freight, while achieving annual
This person will also act as the primary Import Customs and
Trade Compliance representative responsible for procedures,
training, and global support to comply with all applicable import
regulations. They should be versed in all Export Trade functions
and be back up to the Trade Compliance Admin role. Most critical to
success in this role is providing counsel to the business that
balances the regulatory requirements while supporting the business
in a cost-effective way. This position requires an energetic,
take-charge person with a strong background in global customs and
export regulations. It requires proactive leadership and the
ability to develop and execute to a proven strategy, drive process
improvements in key risk areas, provide oversight and technical
guidance to the Business Units, and conduct effective risk
assessment reviews. The Logistics & Trade Compliance Specialist
will also partner with BU Management in seeking appropriate
cost-savings strategies (e.g., utilizing free-trade zones,
expanding free trade agreements and duty drawback programs,
providing subject matter expert feedback on the location of new
factories, and automation of routine trade activities).
The position will actively interface with customs brokers,
freight forwarders, business and senior managers, legal counsel,
customers, suppliers, global logistics and customs agencies.
- Major Responsibilities of the position:
Oversee the trade program at Knorr Brake Company for imports
covering multiple products within each Business Unit and ensuring
compliance to trade laws and regulations.
Refine the strategy to ensure the global trade program is
meeting the requirements of the company today and in the future.
Drive efficiencies in operations and strengthen compliance
through resources such as the central classification database, ACE
and duty reduction programs.
Develop import and export training programs on various topics
such as Tariff classification, Incoterms, and Country of Origin
determination for different functions within the company such as
Sales, Purchasing, Human Resources and Logistics.
Conduct Risk Assessments on various trade compliance topics to
ensure adherence to internal Knorr Brake Company Policies and
Procedures as well as national and international regulations.
Responsible for selection of, and management of, Customs
Work with contracted 3PL for Domestic supply chain and 4PL for
International supply chain for negotiating external contracts with
Freight Forwarders and Carriers, and oversee the selection of
qualified logistic service providers.
Design and optimize internal logistic processes and assist in
writing user documentation, instructions, and procedures - in
particular regarding the Transport and Shipping modules in SAP
Monitor and report on the efficiency and execution of logistic
services within the given BU budgets. This includes costs on both
standard and premium Inbound and Outbound Ground, Air, and Sea
Monitoring of the market prices for logistic services and
controlling of the correct billing for transport costs to the
respective BU 's.
