JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Part-time Electronics Technician

Campus/Location: College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center

Work Unit: Penn State College of Medicine

Department: Division of Applied Biomedical Engineering, Department of Surgery

Full/Part Time: Part-time

The Penn State College of Medicine, Division of Applied Biomedical Engineering, Department of Surgery, is seeking a part-time Electronics Technician for summer employment (approximately 40 hours per week for 16 weeks).

Electronics Technicians support research and development activities within a field or specialization of an engineering discipline through the application of known engineering principles and practices in order to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes. Competency in the use of engineering tools (CAD, GD&T, programming languages, etc.) related to the specific engineering discipline (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, etc.), extensive knowledge of products and services available within that discipline, the ability to create test plans and technical reports for use by engineering or management personnel, and the coordination of efforts by junior engineers and/or support specialists are all expected capabilities within this job profile.

The job requires the ability to read electrical circuit schematics, and to mount, solder, and inspect electronic components on printed circuit boards as per the schematic. Build cable assemblies using crimp tools and soldering. Assemble and test completed electronic controllers using oscilloscopes and digital multimeters. Program embedded controllers using IAR Embedded Workbench or STMicro software. Assemble pneumatic systems consisting of small air compressors, solenoid valves, and sensors. Perform final system testing and document the results.
