JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks The Aspiring Scholars Program is seeking Peer Mentors. Peer mentors are a critical component of The Aspiring Scholars Program, contributing to the overall success of a diverse group of incoming first-year students. Peer mentors support first-year program participants (up to 25 students in total) in the transition from high school to the academic expectations of Penn State Berks.

Specifically, peer mentors support programming efforts surrounding program participants'

(1) access to educational resources,

(2) socio-emotional development, and

(3) personal development.

The core expectations of peer mentors are to

(1) interact respectfully,

(2) intervene appropriately, and

(3) inspire program participants to become active members of the Penn State Berks community.

Primary job responsibilities include supporting the program's one-week summer bridge program, supervising weekly study halls, leading class discussion(s), attending staff meetings, and developing/executing large group social events/programs. Peer Mentors are paid for effort that typically requires 5 hours a week.

This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • FBI Criminal Background Check.
