JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Career Services is seeking applicants for a level 4 career counselor position. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Career Counseling, career counselors provide individualized counseling assistance to students as students explore career options, make career decisions, and implement career plans. These plans include the identification of career options related to a students interests, academic major, and desired geographic location. Counselors assist students in the pursuit of internships, part-time and summer employment, full-time employment, and further education opportunities. Counselor must be skilled at interpersonal counseling, demonstrate multicultural competence, and be grounded in both career and personal development theories. Beyond providing individual career counseling appointments, career counselors support students through drop-in counseling, provide educational workshops to student organizations and classes, and support office-wide events such as career fairs and open houses. Level 4 Career Counselors also teach a career development course, manage an ongoing program, and are involved in the supervision of our graduate level interns. Preference will be given to applicants possessing counseling experience (ideally in a career development context), with a commitment to serving students diverse in identity and in career goals, and with a demonstrated ability to work constructively within a team environment. Position typically requires a Masters Degree or higher in counseling, student affairs, higher education, or related field. For this level 4 position, five years of prior related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
