JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will work effectively with students and faculty in a team environment in a growing and changing major. This person will serve as the primary point of contact for Animal Science advising questions from other Penn State campuses and student services offices and as a key contributor to New Student Orientation (NSO). The candidate will conduct intake meetings with students that inquire about changing to the Animal Science major from other majors at Penn State or from other universities. The candidate will respond to a high volume of emails, phone calls, and individual meetings about University processes and degree requirements. The individual (under guidance of the Animal Science Advising Coordinator) will assist in resolving academic problems, monitoring academic progress, making professional referrals, maintaining confidentiality of student records, and developing and executing strategies in academic services that support student success. In summary, the successful candidate will work with the Departments Advising Coordinator in overseeing existing programs and developing new advising interventions and initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for student success, exceptional customer services instincts, ability to multitask, commitment to teamwork and accountability for the whole, ability to form and manage partnerships, excellent communications and decision-making skills, ability to creatively solve problems, and a sense of humor. A working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word (or other word processing programs) and Excel is required and availability to work 20 hours a week. A background in animal science is preferred, along with knowledge of LionPATH, Starfish, and University policies and procedures.
