JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Instructional Designer Assistant (Part-Time)

The College of Agricultural Sciences Digital Education Team is seeking a part-time instructional designer assistant. This position works with instructional designers, multimedia specialists, and subject matter experts to develop online learning components-primarily educational videos-for Penn State Extension's education programs.

The instructional designer assistant is responsible for working collaboratively with the Digital Education Team and subject matter experts to develop educational videos. They assist with writing video narration and designing storyboards. They compile images and graphics. They help with project management and provide other general support to the Digital Education Team.

The instructional designer assistant must have the ability to review written material for grammatical/spelling errors and have strong wordsmithing skills to enhance comprehension of written material and video narration. Experience with visual design and multimedia is important. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and cloud file storage, is preferred.

The instructional designer assistant must also have digital file organization skills, as well as interpersonal, communication, and time management abilities. They need to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, pay attention to details, be self-motivated, work effectively in an open collaborative environment, and work with a diverse group of people including writers, designers, faculty, staff, and other professionals. Being willing to learn about new and emerging technologies is helpful.

This position requires a bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in writing, education, or instructional design.

At the time of interview, candidates must share two original writing samples. They will also be asked to take a short editing test.

This position is funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of re-funding. The instructional designer assistant must be willing to work at least 20 hours per week.
