Location: Washington DC Compensation: 35/hr-45/hr or 70k-90k per
year About the Role We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance
Engineer to support day-to-day operations across a modern
commercial facility. This role focuses on ensuring that building
systems remain reliable, safe, and fully functional. The ideal
candidate brings hands-on technical experience and a proactive
mindset, with the desire to continue growing into a more
senior-level maintenance or facilities engineering role. Key
Responsibilities Facility & Systems Maintenance Perform routine and
preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing,
and safety systems. Conduct scheduled equipment inspections and
maintain accurate service logs. Address general repair needs and
identify when issues require escalation to specialists.
Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose root causes of equipment
malfunctions. Execute repairs using proper tools and replacement
components. Respond quickly to urgent maintenance or building
system alerts. Systems Monitoring & Efficiency Assist with
monitoring building automation systems to support efficient
performance. Contribute to tracking energy usage and recommending
efficiency improvements. Participate in long-range planning related
to capital upgrades. Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination Work closely
with external contractors and service providers to ensure work is
completed to required standards. Communicate effectively with
internal teams and facilities leadership regarding system
conditions and project updates. Provide high-quality support to
staff and tenants to ensure a comfortable work environment.
Compliance & Safety Follow established safety protocols, OSHA
standards, and building regulations. Support inspections,
documentation, and corrective actions as needed. Maintain knowledge
of current codes and safe work practices. Professional Development
Participate in training to advance technical capabilities. Partner
with senior team members on complex work to build deeper expertise.
Take initiative in suggesting improvements to processes or facility
operations. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required;
technical/trade certification strongly preferred. 3-5 years'
experience in building operations, maintenance, or related trades
(HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.). Working understanding of
building systems, mechanical equipment, and basic automation
controls. Familiarity with CMMS or digital maintenance tracking
tools. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics,
and technical documentation. Strong communication, organization,
